DEPARTMENTS
STUDENTS MUST EARN A TOTAL OF 32 CREDITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A SOUTH SUMMIT HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA. THIS INCLUDES THE CORE MANDATED BY THE STATE OF UTAH, ALONG WITH A VARIETY OF CTE AND ELECTIVE COURSES. TO MEET MINIMUM GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS, STUDENTS MUST TAKE THE FOLLOWING:
4 credits English / Language Arts
3 credits Math (4 years recommended for college preparation)
3 credits Science (including a Biological and Physical science class)
3 credits Social Studies (including Geography, World History, U.S. History, and U.S. Government)
1.5 credits Fine Arts (Visual arts, Drama, Music, etc)
.5 credits Health
1.5 credits P.E. (must include Fitness for Life and P.E. Skills or Sports Participation)
.5 credits Computer Literacy (Business Office Specialist, etc.)
.5 credits General Financial Literacy
2 credits CTE (Career and Technical Education)
12.5 credits (at least) Electives (any class that is not counting toward the above required CORE counts as an elective...for example, a 4th credit of science would count toward the elective credit requirement.)
GRADUATING WITH HONORS
Students may graduate with Academic Honors or departmental honors by fulfilling the requirements as outlined on the applications. Honor cords will be distributed prior to graduation. You may only wear honor cords that you have applied for and earned.
