ACT
Traditionally, the ACT (American College Testing) has been the college entrance exam preferred by all of Utah's colleges and universities. Schools have used the ACT to help determine college admissions, scholarships, and class placement.
All Juniors at SSHS will have the opportunity to take the ACT for free in the Spring. We recommend that students take the ACT at least twice and suggest that, if possible, you take it in the spring/summer at the end of your junior year. Those students who qualify for free/reduced lunch, are enrolled in GearUp, or come from economically disadvantaged families, may use an ACT fee waiver to take the test up to four times for no charge. See Ms. Regan in the Counseling Office for a fee waiver.
One of the key reasons that students should consider taking the ACT more than once is that it can help them improve their scores. The ACT tests students on a variety of subjects, including English, math, reading, and science. By taking the test more than once, students can focus on specific areas where they may be weak and work to improve their skills. This can help them increase their overall scores, which can in turn make them more competitive when applying to colleges and scholarships.
Another reason why taking the ACT more than once can be beneficial is that it can help students become more comfortable with the test. Taking the ACT can be a stressful experience for many students, especially if they are taking it for the first time. By taking the test more than once, students can become more familiar with the format of the test and the types of questions that are asked. This can help them feel more confident and prepared on test day, which can improve their performance.
Finally, taking the ACT more than once can also give students the opportunity to explore different colleges and universities. Many colleges and universities have different ACT score requirements for admission. By taking the ACT more than once, students can see how their scores compare to the requirements of different colleges and universities. This can help them make more informed decisions about where to apply and what schools might be the best fit for them.
Taking the ACT more than once is an important decision for students who are planning to apply to college. It can help them improve their scores, become more comfortable with the test, and explore different colleges and universities. By taking the ACT multiple times, students can give themselves the best chance of success when applying to college.
Study hard and best of luck on your ACT!
